TIE Fingerprint Appointment: How to Book and What You Need

Fingerprinting is the in-person procedure required to issue the Tarjeta de Identidad de Extranjero (TIE) when the authorisation granted to you requires this card. The application is personal and, as a general rule, must be made within one month from the date relevant to your authorisation.

How to book the fingerprint appointment

Use the official immigration cita previa system:

  1. Select the province.
  2. Choose the procedure for fingerprinting or issuing a TIE.
  3. Enter your NIE, name and the other requested details.
  4. Choose an available office, date and time.
  5. Confirm the booking and save the confirmation.

The exact name of the procedure may differ between provinces.

Documents required

You will normally need:

  • completed and signed form EX-17;
  • your original, valid passport;
  • the decision or other document proving your authorisation;
  • a recent passport photograph, in colour and against a white background;
  • proof of payment of form 790, code 012;
  • appointment confirmation.

The office may request additional documents depending on the type of authorisation.

Form 790, code 012, fee

The appointment itself is free, but issuing the TIE is subject to a fee.

Type of card Fee
Initial temporary residence, stay authorisation or cross-border worker €16.08
Renewal of temporary residence or extension of stay €19.30
Long-term or long-term EU residence €21.87
Family member of a Spanish citizen or EU citizen €12.00

Where required, pay the fee before attending and keep the receipt.

What happens at the appointment?

The police check the documents, verify your identity and take the fingerprints needed to produce the card. The TIE is not normally issued on the same day.

Collecting the TIE

The procedure varies by police station. Some require a second appointment, while others allow collection during specified hours. Confirm the collection procedure on the day your fingerprints are taken.

What if no appointments are available?

Check the official portal regularly, review other authorised offices in the province and try again at different times. There is no general official schedule guaranteeing when new appointments will be released.

The immigration appointment is free. Avoid paying third parties who claim they can obtain appointments through unofficial systems.

Common mistakes

  • Attending without paying form 790, code 012, or without keeping the payment receipt.
  • Confusing the NIE with the TIE and booking a procedure other than fingerprinting or card issuance.
  • Paying an intermediary for an appointment that is provided free through the public system.
