Arraigo socioformativo: requirements, eligible training and steps

What arraigo socioformativo is

The route formerly called arraigo para la formación is now arraigo socioformativo. Its full official name is autorización de residencia temporal por circunstancias excepcionales por razón de arraigo socioformativo.

The initial authorization lasts 1 year. It allows legal residence in Spain and employed work up to 30 hours per week.

Who can apply

The applicant must generally be in Spain, have remained continuously for at least two years, not be an applicant for international protection, have no relevant criminal record, not be subject to an entry ban, have paid the fee, not hold another stay or residence authorization, and provide a favorable social integration report together with evidence of eligible training.

Time as an international protection applicant does not count toward the 2 years until there is a final decision.

Valid training

Training must fit the categories accepted by the Immigration Regulation, such as post-compulsory secondary education in an authorized center, grade C professional certificates, in-person adult compulsory education or training promoted by public employment services and linked to accepted occupations.

For blended training, at least 50% must be in person. Before filing, it is important to check that the training fits the accepted category and that the center is authorized or accredited.

Advantages

This route allows regularization in Spain without a visa, grants a 1-year residence authorization, allows a TIE request, permits employed work up to 30 hours per week and does not require an initial employment contract.

Documents, fee and filing

The form is EX-10. Main documents include valid full passport, proof of 2 years continuous presence, criminal record certificate, training documents or training commitment, favorable social integration report and proof of fee payment.

The fee is paid using Modelo 790, código 052, section 2.3.1. The published amount consulted is EUR 38.28.

The application may be filed through Mercurio or with the competent Oficina de Extranjería (Immigration Office).

After approval

If enrollment was not provided before approval, it must be proven within 3 months after notification. The TIE must be requested within 1 month.

The extension lasts 1 year and requires proof that the training requirements have been met. Later modification to residence and work follows the rules of the Immigration Regulation.
